Players and Parents,
All of the drafts have been completed!! So, you all should be hearing from your players coach any day now. There are a few exceptions for those of you who signed up after the drafts were completed, which should be worked out in the next few days. It is so great to see that things are getting back to normal for these kids. We are set up to have a great season with 39 teams, just under 300 players!
Our first day of games is on December 3, 2022. We will play again on December 10th and 17th. The next scheduled game day will be January 7, 2023. This will also be picture day, so please remind your player to bring their smiles.
There will not be any games on January 14th, 2023, due to the Poway Holiday in the Park. The city does not have enough staff for the gyms and the activities.
We will have games scheduled on January 21st, and 28th. February 4th, 11th, 25th, and March 4th for the regular season games. We will then have playoffs on March 4th and possibly March 11th.
The game schedules will be posted to the website (www.pybl.com) in the next few days and also emailed to the coaches. So please look out for those soon.
The jerseys have been ordered and should be delivered just in time for the first game. They will be available for pick-up just before your player's game. So please have your player arrive at least 15 minutes early to pick up his/her jersey.
During the game parents will be asked to volunteer to run the scoreboard or the score book. We ask one parent from each team to help with this. It is not rocket science and something you can learn in a few minutes. The board will be there to help you out. Those of you who do volunteer for this important job, get courtside tickets for free!
Something else that unfortunately needs to be brought up...The kids are there to HAVE FUN, improve their basketball skills, and make friends. This is recreational basketball and there will NOT be any college scouts looking to recruit. The referees that we use will be either High School or College players. Most of them played PYBL in the past and love the game enough to come back to ref for the league. Just like the professional refs, they will make mistakes. Nobody is perfect. You may feel the need to let them know they missed a foul, a travel, a double dribble, or even players in the key too long. I am hoping that instead of doing this, you will reach out to one of the board members and let us know about it. The referees are doing the best they can and have the ability to ask parents and/or coaches to leave if they are interfering with the game.
Also keep in mind that if you are a parent in the stands, this is a perfect time for cheering on your players. This is not a time to be coaching them, this is why we have coaches. During the game there is a lot going on, whistles blowing, balls bouncing, and buzzers buzzing. The kids need to be able to hear their coach during the game, and not parents coaching from the sidelines.
That's about all for now,
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, and we will see you all on the court soon!!
PYBL Board
Basketball Players and Fans,
We are starting to work on getting ready for the 2022-2023 PYBL Winter Season. Registration opened on September 1, 2022. Poway Youth Basketball League is a recreational league for girls and boys that are in 3rd-12th grade. We typically have divisions for 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade. There is only a Boys High School Division, but girls can play too!! Player evaluation dates will be on November 5th and 12th, 2022. Exact times to be posted later. It is very important for all players to attend at least one of the evaluation days. If you plan on coaching it would be a good idea for you to be present at both evaluations. We are ALWAYS in need of coaches, so if you are interested please indicate that when registering your player(s).
Shortly after the evaluations we will schedule a draft for each division. Once the teams have been picked and the coaches have been approved to coach, the teams can begin practicing. The practice days/times are up to the coach. Typically the teams practice on the blacktop courts at Twin Peaks Elementary School from 3:45pm-5:00pm. Exact days will depend on Coach and Team availability.
The games will start in early December. We do take some time off for the Holidays and typically return to play in mid January. We will most likely only be playing on Saturdays and possibly one night during the week if the gyms are available. The season goes to mid March ending with playoffs and an All-Star game. The games will be played at either Twin Peaks Middle School or Meadowbrook Middle School in the gymnasium.
